News

Carn to Cove is Cornwall's performing arts scheme for rural communities.  We fill local sports halls, chapels and our wonderfully varied village halls with poetry, laughter, music, drama, stories and dancing.

Another tumultuous mix of superb live performances is planned for spring 2010.

New commissions from Cornwall include John Brolly’s new storytelling show “Out of the Box”, Cube Theatre’s new play by Mark Crees “The Locksmith’s Daughter”, and Bish Bash Bosh with “A Mere Interlude” while C-Scape’s “When The Shops Shut”, Bash Street’s “The Lion Tamer” and Bec Applebee “Oh Mary” continue their highly popular new productions which have been packing out Cornwall’s halls all winter.

We also present a varied range of international visitors – this season there is a strong emphasis on Scandinavian and Baltic, dance and music – three bands from Denmark, Estonia and Poland bring distinctive new music to Cornwall – both from relative newcomers and international headline acts like Harald Haugaard…….yes in your village hall! All part of the Baltic Roots tour of the South West.

However Cornish bands are also on the road with newcomers to Carn to Cove: Penzance - based Caravan – offering a Latin mix of Salsa and Jazz and Braga Tanga making a popular return to the scheme. Both offer music with dance in your local hall.

Barbershopera are back through heavy demand following last year’s show which won the Edinburgh Fringe Festival “Best Musical” award. Scottish and Irish tunes will be at the heart of Claire Mann and Aaron Jones’ show in Blisland.

And I still haven’t mentioned the Pantomime (Miracle), the puppets (Angel Heart), and Circus Berzercus in “Funny Business” – get booking online – where some tickets are free for young People!!!

Feast

In 2009 Carn to Cove began increasing its active communities from 43 to 60.  This expansion is a tremendous vote of confidence in our success and has been made possible as part of the "Feast" programme run by Cornwall County Council and the Arts Council.  We are actively recruiting new communities and have already signed up Mylor, Nancledra and Towednack, Kingsand and Cawsand.   Also a small number of market towns are joining - Bude, Camelford and Helston are the first.   If you know of a community who might want to join the scheme please contact us.

Free Theatre Initiative

Are you under 26?
Would you like to see shows for free?

With the new Free Ticket scheme you can do just that!  Venue Cornwall, the consortium of Cornwall-wide venues has been awarded £50,000 to support a free ticket scheme for the next two years, for anybody who is under 26.

Carn to Cove, as part of Venue Cornwall, will be offering a limited number of Free Tickets to anyone under the age of 26 for all their shows in 2009.  Free Tickets will be allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis and you will have to apply online as an individual.

This is all part of a Government funded initiative to encourage more young people to go to the theatre and Carn to Cove want to attract 1000 more young people to attend their village events.

Free Tickets, terms and conditions, and further information are available online from: www.carntocove.co.uk

AudioVoice - Singing of All Sorts at National Trust properties

Our highly popular series of free two-day  singing workshops at National Trust Cornish rural properties for young people of  10 - 12 years old concluded last season with English Touring Opera at Godolphin House. We are busy planning the next project so watch this space for details.

The success of Carn to Cove is founded on the 250 volunteers around the county who want to keep their local hall as a centre of social and live performance.  They need your support to contribute to full houses for a great night out. For tickets to all events call your local hall on the phone number given in this brochure or book online at www.carntocove.co.uk.  If you are interested in joining our mailing list, our volunteers or wish to enquire about including your community on the scheme, please contact us on 01209 313200.
